Finding missing persons in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war is a challenging and sensitive issue. Finding missing individuals in conflict zones requires a coordinated effort involving various stakeholders, and every effort to reunite families and provide closure is crucial in humanitarian and human rights terms.
As previously announced, a meeting of relatives of persons who went missing in the war in Ukraine and representatives of Solidaritätsnetz International took place in Bern on August 3rd.
The delegation from Ukraine was headed by the famous politician and dissident Igor Mosiychuk (Ігор Мосійчук). Solidaritätsnetz International was represented by the president of the organization, Ms. Sonja Troicher, as well as representatives of the branches of Solidaritätsnetz International from Austria and Germany.
The event was attended by journalists from Switzerland, Austria and Ukraine.
The Ukrainian side complained about numerous cases of violation of their rights as members of families of missing persons and inhumane treatment of them by the military leadership. They pointed out the lack of due respect, communication and search operations by the state authorities of Ukraine. In addition, cases of kidnapping of journalists were voiced, which are not properly investigated, as indicated even in documents from the UN. Mr. Igor Mosiychuk (Ігор Мосійчук) stated that the above is the state policy of Kyiv on negligent attitude both to military personnel and to members of their families. The politician pointed out the sharp reduction of human rights in Ukraine and persecution of journalists and citizens of Ukraine for dissent.
Solidaritätsnetz International will investigate the facts presented, will work on cases of missing persons and will address relevant letters to international organizations and the political leadership of Ukraine. Our organization will provide all possible support in the search for missing persons.
