In Switzerland, debates on popular initiatives continue, including the neutrality initiative, which seeks to enshrine the strictest possible interpretation of this principle in the Constitution. But we are convinced that neutrality does not mean indifference, especially when it comes to war and gross violations of international law.
Russian aggression against Ukraine is not only an attack on its territory and people. It is an attack on democracy, freedom and the right of countries to choose their own future. Ukraine today stands at the forefront of the fight for the values that underlie the European Union: the rule of law, human rights, respect for sovereignty and peace between peoples.
That is why Ukraine’s path to the EU is not just a political goal, but a natural choice for a state that has proven its commitment to democracy and willingness to pay a high price for freedom. Supporting Ukraine in this endeavor is support for all of Europe and its future.
