The Simonovsky court in Moscow has replaced the suspended sentence in the Yves Rocher case with a real one for opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
The court found that Navalny had systematically violated the rules of probation. In this regard, it was decided to replace the suspended sentence of 3.5 years with a real one – while Navalny will be credited with the time he spent under house arrest during the initial consideration of the case – this is approximately 10 months (from the end of February to the end of December 2014). Thus, in total, in accordance with the decision, Navalny must spend two years and eight months in a general regime colony.
Solidaritätsnetz International believes that Mr. Navalny has been imprisoned solely for his political activities! We declare that Alexei Navalny is a political prisoner and demand his immediate release.
Officially, the Swiss Confederation reacted to Navalny’s imprisonment. The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs issued a statement posted on Twitter.
Switzerland is deeply concerned about today‘s conviction of Alexey
Navalny. We call on Russia to uphold its international obligations and the principles of the rule of law. Alexey Navalny should be released immediately.
